Ernesto Neto’s vast woven sculptures invite the viewer to enter into, or shelter beneath, their porous crocheted forms. Herbs and spices perfume the air, hanging pendulously like chrysalises ready to burst. Since the 1990s, Neto has created biomorphic sculptures that engage all of the viewer’s senses and imagine new connections to the earth. Inspired by Indigenous weaving practices and Brazilian Neo-Concretism, Neto creates porous membranes that radically redefine scale and architecture, encouraging new structures for communion and engagement.
