Liu Shiyuan’s diverse multimedia practice explores her upbringing living between China, the U.S. and Europe and her subsequent transcultural ‘identity confusion’. With a fluctuataitng identity, her work uses satire and exaggerated de/re contextualization of both found and made material. Through these techniques she explores the inherent communication gaps that are the result of changing technologies and digitally nomadic modern lifestyles. Her installation works engulf the viewer in a cornucopia of images reiterating how images can have varied meanings when stripped of their context.
