Ernesto Neto: Ba Ka Ba, a Dance of the Eternal Polarities (Ba Ka Ba, uma dança das eternas polaridades): Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea
Ernesto Neto opened a new site-specific installation at the Seoul Museum of Art. 'Dance of Eternal Polarities,' which is part of its 2025 Public Space Project, transforms the museum's lobby into an immersive sculptural environment
This newly commissioned piece features crochet-woven structures filled with dried guava and 'Camelia sinensis' tea leaves locally sourced in Korea proposing a new sensory experience through an organic spatial form. The title 'Dance of Eternal Polarities' symbolizes the continuous intersections and relationships among body and space, sensation and thought, self and other, nature and civilization, which are key themes that Neto has long explored in his practice. Rooted in the legacy of Brazilian Neo-Concrete movement, which values sensation, participations, and subjective experience, this project reimagines the possibilities of expanded art practice with contemporary urban space.
