YUKO MOHRI: Entanglements: Centro Botín, Spain
Yuko Mohri (Kanagawa, Japan, 1980; lives and works in Tokyo) has developed a practice that combines visual art and experimental music. Through complex, site-specific kinetic installations, her distinctive language translates imperceptible natural phenomena such as humidity, gravity, magnetism, and heat into visual and acoustic effects. With a playful approach, she assembles everyday objects and repurposed musical instruments, often connecting them to electronic circuits that activate light, sound, and movement.
Entanglements centers on the idea of interconnectedness between objects, energies, sounds, and people. The title evokes imperceptible connections and alludes to the delicate interplay between natural and artificial structures that create and influence our environment. The exhibition brings together eight of Mohri’s most iconic kinetic sculptures and sound installations. The compositions of the works have been tuned by the artist to respond to the architectural and environmental features of this space.
